The Greater Toronto Area
The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is comprised of 25 municipalities and has a population of 6 million. The City of Toronto has a population of 2.6 million, is the 4th largest city in North America, and is an amalgamation of the prior municipalities of York, North York, East York, City of Toronto, Etobicoke and Scarborough.
The Greater Toronto Area is home to an impressive number of post secondary educational institutions, including ten universities and colleges. The public school system is used by most families. The GTA’s safety, cleanliness and ethnic diversity, combined with racial and cultural harmony, set it apart from other large urban centres. The Greater Toronto Area is consistently ranked as one of the urban areas with the best quality of life in the world.
